Background
Beginnings
Victoria is the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants who fled the war in 1975. Her father was a South Vietnamese soldier and her mother was a seamstress. She has five half-siblings: four older brothers and one younger sister.
Even though her parents divorced when she was 2 years old, she was blessed to be raised and guided by a community of good samaritans: teachers, parents, and friendly neighbors.
Echo Park, Los Angeles
Victoria is proud of her hometown where she resided for nearly 20 years. She has a deep appreciation for the tough streets of LA which shaped much of her character and who she is today.
It was in this environment where she developed her passion for photography, choosing to focus on the beauty of things amid uncertainty.
College Experience
While obtaining her Bachelors' and Masters's degrees over 5 years spent at UC Merced, Victoria also wholeheartedly dedicated herself to public service, leadership development, youth mentorship, student government, and competing professionally in Mixed Martial Arts.
Yosemite National Park
Considered as UC Merced’s backyard, Victoria spent a lot of time exploring this national treasure with friends, capturing the beauty of every season.
Did you know? Yosmite is the same size as Rhode Island. Wild.

Working with
Yosemite Search and Rescue
In between the academic school years at UC Merced, Victoria spent summers working in Yosemite National Park, where over 200 deaths occur each year in the rugged environment. As a search and rescue crew member, Victoria has assisted in a number of missions, from minor incidents of dehydration to deaths at waterfalls. Her experiences of supporting thousands of park visitors gave her a deepened sense of appreciation and respect for nature and the fragility of life.
Working with Yosemite Fire & Aviation Management
Victoria had the opportunity to work with the Wildland Fire Module in Yosemite, where she aided in operations such as prescribed fires, fuel reductions and evacuations.
Educating park visitors
While performing as a member of Yosemite Fire, Victoria was also able to work on small video projects on the side. In this video, Fire Archaeologist Jun Kinoshta explains the different types of fires in the park and the role it plays in maintaining a healthy ecosystem for wildlife to thrive.
Adventures
While exploring different countries, Victoria not only enjoys the culture and landscapes but also professionally trains in mixed martial arts at world-renowned gyms to improve her fight game.
